Fonda Vela Hotel… There are some hotels where you enjoy the hotel área… The pathways, the restaurant, the gardens. There are some others, where you stay simply to sleep and enjoy the región… Simple, clean and nice hotels where the rooms are silent and the beds are comfortable… But there are hotels where you want to go just to enjoy the rooms! Fonda Vela and their Junior Suites are exactly that! You really don’t want to leave the room… and I am a fan of the Monteverde Cloud Forest!
But … I have been sitting by the huge window of the suites… with a book… and have seen monkeys, quetzals and bell birds! All of them from the room… in the – not as close, but not as far – rainforest around the hotel.
OK, let’s talk little by little about Fonda Vela rooms, restaurant, etc.
The rooms: There are two type of rooms: Standard and Junior Suites… Of course I prefer the suites… but the standards are also very nice! Don’t get me wrong!
First of all rooms are big in Fonda Vela.
Standard rooms are smaller than the suites but because the suites are very large.
What I like the best about them is the fact that they have windows… No… I don’t mean a regular window… I mean Windows… With capital W! Surrounded by windows, big windows, nice, clean and with a view to the forest windows! And they are cozy! OMG! If there is a hotel with cozy rooms it is Fonda Vela.
So, for a solo traveler like me (Right now) it is the perfect room to have a hot tea (Or coffee) (They provide coffee makers in all the rooms) and simply sit there, with a good book to contemplate the forest and slowly zip the beverage!… Mmmm… cozy!
I have never been there in a romantic escapade, but I can imagine it is also great for that.
They come with mini-bar, telephone, coffee maker and cable TV.
Now… The Junior Suites…
If I had to choose one word to describe these suites, I would have a fight within, between cozy, huge or beautiful. They are the three!
First of all yes, they are huge but there is so much dark wood that they are very cozy. And very classy.
They all have a King Size and a Queen size and a great corner by the window to simply sit and look to the outside.
They also provide mini-bar, telephone, coffee maker and cable TV.
The restaurant:
They have two restaurants. One of them, The Galleria, is where breakfast is served. Very nice, very large. Surrounded by forest. And the breakfast’s buffets are abundant and service is nice and efficient.
The other restaurant is so beautiful! Sitting by the chimney corner, the Fireside Room is very classy and absolutely delicious food! I love the vegetables cream that they serve… but go for anything! It is supreme!
Now, if you ask me about the cons of Fonda Vela… I would say that the only con that I can find is that is not close to the town of Santa Elena, or even Cerro Plano. It is on the way to the Monteverde Reserve and totally away from the crowds. It would be easier to be there if, either you have a car with you or, you already have tours that can pick you up and take you back.
Other than that, I utterly love that place!
