Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Your
first day in Costa Rica is in San José at the Don Carlos Hotel, a historical hotel. Completely renovated in 1996,
this hotel is located in the "oldest" residential area of the city. This area is currently being redesigned as
a refined French Quarter, like New Orleans. It is directly across the street from the World renowned "Pre-Columbian Jade Museum". Nearby attractions within walking distance from the
local zoo, a 150-year-old liquor factory (now a cultural museum), and numerous other museums and parks.
Day 2-3
From San José
we journey north and east, to the Caribbean and Pachira Lodge, located on the border of the Tortuguero
National Park. Tortuguero is of the most varied ecosystems within the Costa Rica, with 11 ecological habitats, including high rainforest to marsh to swamps. This coastal rainforest
has thousands of channels to boat down, and is a world unto its own. This area is very diverse, and the Pachira gives you access to all of it.
The lodge is a mere 5 minutes from Tortuguero National Park, directly across the main 'canal' facing the town of Tortuguero.
Since you are going to a very remote location, all meals are included, as well as tours into the Park. You're going to have a great time exploring the savage jungle on the coast of the Caribbean!
You'll take a couple of tours; one by foot (backpacking) through the thick jungles and the other by boat (hyperlink: just the
boat tour) through the canals that inhabit some of Costa Rica's most exotic wildlife. A
true nature lovers adventure! This is a full day tour!
Want even more jungle? Take the Tortuguero Jungle Kayaking tour from Mwamba Lodge! This is a 2-4 day tour under your own power >
Day 4
Back to San José for one day and night. We warn you, after the Tortuguero, civilization might seem... busy! Get some shopping in, eat at a wonderful restaurant, get some rest and get ready
for your next leg of adventure!
Day 5-7
Next you'll be traveling to the Osa Peninsula, which is south and west of San José. This is a very remote region as well. How remote? Well, you take a flight from San José to Palmar
Sur, then land transport from Palma Sur to the town of Sierpe, and THEN you take boat transport from Sierpe to Casa Corcovado. You can't get much farther from civilization than
that.
You will be staying at the Casa
Corcovado Jungle Lodge, a lodge built upon a 170-acre private reserve right on the border of the Corcovado National Park. Accommodations at this "Lost
World" adventure resort are artfully-appointed individual bungalows offering unpretentious comfort, mosquito-netted beds, ceiling fan, tiled floors, lounge area,
dry mini bar, safety deposit box, hammock, and ample closets. Roomy private bathrooms have hot water showers and designer fixtures.
Corcovado is an amazing rainforest, and a protected region of Costa Rica. It is the backpacking experience of a lifetime.
It encompasses the only remaining old growth wet forests
on the Pacific coast of Central America, and 13 major ecosystems including lowland rain forest, highland cloud forest, jolillo
palm forest, and mangrove swamps, as well as coastal marine and beach habitats.
You'll have two incredible tours to take. The first one is the Corcovado National Park Tour, a full day hiking trip with lunch and snacks.
A bilingual guide will show you how the ecosystems work, and why it's a protected region. Breathe in beauty, learn about nature, and see some of the most beautiful flora and fauna in the world.
Next, it's a Tour to Caño Island by boat! Caño Island has some of the most abundant marine life in the world. There are also
pre-Columbian artifacts (bolas, basically big spheres of rock) that dot the island. Boat to the island, then hike your way through the lushness of nature.
Because Casa Corcovado is a remote destination, all meals and tours are included. Relax, hike, boat, and explore land known to only a few!
OPTIONAL: If you're a scuba diver, and have an extra day, then you must take the Caño Island Diving adventure
tour. Caño Island
offers some of the most exciting diving anywhere in the world, and it's marine diversity is unmatched on earth.
OPTIONAL: If you're a bird watcher, then this place is paradise for you! Over 350 species of birds can be found in Corcovado. Click
here for a complete list of birds.
Day 8-9
Back to civilization! Boat, then drive, then fly back to San José for one more night in San José at the Don Carlos. Relax and sleep, or tour the town... San José really is a fun place to visit,
with a relaxed atmosphere and warmhearted people and culture.
Pricing
$1395 per person.
