Introduction

Referred to as the Amazons of Costa Rica, Tortuguero is a navigable network of lakes and canals that crosses the National Park from Southeast to Northwest.

Tortuguero is an ideal destination for eco adventurers, couples or families looking to witness one of Costa Rica's most unique eco systems. All lodges provide transportation from San José along with extremely knowledgeable guides.

For the lovers of flora this area offers more tree life diversity than all of those found in North America. And for the wildlife lovers, this area is home to over 400 species of birds, 60 species of amphibians, all 3 of the local monkeys and of course the famous green sea turtles.

Four varieties of turtles return to the region every year for nesting including the hawksbill, loggerhead, pacific green and giant leatherback.
